This view of Mt. St. Helens is one of my favorites in SW Washington State. Check out where this is on Google maps here. This road and many others live in Road Collections. Cycling has brought me to a lot of locations around the world and the Road Collections is a window into that world.
If that mountain in the background looks a bit flat on top, that’s because it erupted on May 18th, 1980.
Geologically, this region of the United States is amazing and Gifford Pinchot National Park is one of my favorite parks. As you ride on these old country roads closer to the mountain, you see some buildings that were abandoned and haven’t been touched since the eruption. I’ll try and take some photos of those old ranger stations as I see them.
